4 August 2009 - Carmel Valley, CA – Today Tassajara  (http://www.sfzc.org/tassajara) announces their end-of-summer guest season retreats, offered to the general public through September. These retreats are designed to soothe the spirit and invigorate the mind and body. They are perfect in today’s hard times for people who are searching for either some fresh perspective or just a way to get back in touch with the basics. Either way Tassajara’s history of offering Zen-inspired retreats, with well-known teachers from around the world, has helped folks for 40 plus years soothe their minds and spirits. Under the umbrella of true Zen teachings, whose main tenant is to end suffering, there are some great retreats to chose from - whether you want to take a look at how you view money in your life, cultivate the seeds of your well-being or just do some wholesome cooking or body work Tassajara offers 2 to 3 day late summer retreats at it’s Zen Mountain center for $100 to $300. Visitors can combine a retreat with an overnight stay to enjoy the hot springs, hike the trails or take a summer swim in the creek – all just miles from the Bay Area. Some retreats to consider before Tassajara launches into its monastic season this September:

August 14-17   Discovering the Dharma of Money
August 21-23   Meeting the Moment Fully
August 28-30   Yoga and Earth Based Practices
Sept. 11-13      Finding Yourself in the Tassajara Kitchen
Sept. 10-13      Cultivating the Seeds of Well-Being

“Our 40 year plus Zen practice seems so appropriate for people to take advantage of in these troubles times,” said Robert Thomas, President of San Francisco Zen Center. “You don’t have to be a Buddhist to take away something from Buddhist teachings about ending suffering.. Our guests always tell us how calming and inspiring they find our retreats, in fact, some even say they are life changing.”

Tassajara’s hot springs overlook a lovely creek, located in a mountain valley inland from the rugged coast of Big Sur, just a few hours’ drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.  Generations of guests have visited Tassajara and its natural hot springs since the 1860s. In 1966, Shunryu Suzuki Roshi and the San Francisco Zen Center established Tassajara Zen Mountain Center. . The fall and winter months are dedicated to traditional Zen monastic practice.  However, the summer guest season is open to the public from May to September.  Visitors can relax and enjoy the renowned vegetarian cuisine, bathe in the river-side hot springs, hike in the hills, or swim in the outdoor pool.  Learn more about San Francisco Zen Center or Tassajara at www.sfzc.org, or contact us This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
