28 April 2011  – San Francisco, CA:  This year’s Zazzle Bay to Breakers Race will be historic: marking a century of one of the world’s best-loved sporting and celebratory events. More than ever, City officials and Race organizers are serious about keeping the Race free from alcohol abuse and nuisance behavior. 

 

“Bay to Breakers is an unequalled sporting event which attracts athletes from around the world,” said Commander James Dudley of the San Francisco Police Department.  “During this permitted race, the San Francisco Police Department will be out in force, including the alcohol control officers, to ensure public safety for everyone and to comply with the law, both on and off the race course.”

 

To emphasize the point, a special campaign website has been launched at www.baytobreakers100.com with public transit information, rules and regulations, video PSAs and links to social media sites stressing this year’s campaign.

 

“As Bay to Breakers prepares to celebrate the centennial race, we would like to remind everyone that there will be zero tolerance for public drinking, floats and crashing by non registrants of this year's Zazzle Bay to Breakers Race,” said Angela Fang of AEG, producers of the event.  “We want all participants to enjoy a fun 100th, but as public safety is our top priority we need to ensure that we protect both our runners and spectators, and leave the neighborhoods through which the Race passes just as clean as before the event started.”
