27 March 2009 – San Francisco, CA: The San Francisco Zen Center is pleased to welcome the widely acclaimed poet and teacher David Whyte for two special events on Friday, May 29 at Herbst Theatre and Saturday, May 30 at the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center at Muir Beach. On Friday Whyte will present a lecture titled “Thresholds of Presence Courageous Conversations for Difficult Times:” Whyte will offer a journey through the poetic tradition, looking at the thresholds human beings have always had to cross to live a larger, richer, more courageous and more generous life no matter what outward circumstances may be. On Saturday Whyte will lead a workshop, “The Stranger Inside You Making a Friend of Courage and Conviction,” in which an examination of poets and contemplatives will encourage participants to develop greater compassion for themselves as the basis for forming deeper resolve to embrace the challenges of every day life. Tickets are $22 for Friday night and $100 for Saturday; tickets are available at City Box Office by calling (415) 393-4400 or visiting www.cityboxoffice.com.

About San Francisco Zen Center:
San Francisco Zen Center was established in 1962 by the Soto Zen master Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (1904-1971), author of the modern spiritual classic Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind. The purpose of Zen Center is to make accessible and embody the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha for all people — visitors, householders, families, students in residence and priests — guided by rigorously trained teachers who follow in Suzuki Roshi’s “beginner’s mind” way. San Francisco Zen Center has three extraordinary practice centers in California: Tassajara, City Center, and Green Gulch Farm. Each center offers daily meditation, retreats, classes, lectures, and workshops.
