Happy Birthday Rainbow Honor Walk Honoree James Baldwin
Today on the anniversary of his birth, we celebrate the life and legacy of Rainbow Honor Walk honoree James Baldwin (August 2, 1924 – December 1, 1987).
Born in Harlem, New York, James Baldwin was one of the twentieth century’s greatest writers and public intellectuals. Through landmark works including Go Tell It on the Mountain, Giovanni’s Room, Notes of a Native Son, and The Fire Next Time, Baldwin explored race, identity, sexuality, faith, and the American experience with extraordinary honesty and eloquence.
As a Black gay man, Baldwin challenged prejudice in all its forms, becoming an enduring voice for civil rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and social justice. His words continue to inspire readers around the world to confront injustice with courage, compassion, and truth.
