Braille Institute of America

For more than 100 years, Braille Institute of America has been a beacon of hope, independence, and empowerment for individuals living with blindness and low vision throughout Southern California. Through free, life-changing services — from low vision rehabilitation and assistive technology training to mobility instruction, counseling, and enrichment programs — the organization helps thousands of clients each year live with confidence and dignity.

On May 6, 2026, the Braille Institute will mark a major milestone with the groundbreaking of its new 5,200-square-foot Rancho Mirage facility, a regional hub designed to serve the growing needs of the Coachella Valley. The new center will expand access to essential free services for residents experiencing macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other forms of vision loss, ensuring that help, hope, and community remain accessible to all. The facility is expected to open in November of 2026.
