Remembering Federico García Lorca
Today on the anniversary of his birth, we celebrate the life and legacy of Rainbow Honor Walk honoree Federico García Lorca (June 5, 1898 – August 19, 1936). One of Spain’s greatest poets and playwrights, Lorca transformed modern literature through works rooted in Andalusian culture, lyric intensity, and profound empathy for the marginalized. A gay artist whose life and voice were silenced by fascist violence at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, he remains an enduring symbol of artistic courage, queer memory, and resistance.
