Third “Shop for a Cause” Benefits Boys & Girls Club of Palm Springs

Friday, August 7: 3pm – 8pm

31 July 2020 – Palm Springs, CA:  On Friday, August  7“Retail Therapy” takes on a whole new meaning as Palm Springs Retailers hosts the third Shop for a Cause, this year benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Spring. From 3pm – 8pm that day, each retailer will donate a portion of sales during that period to the esteemed nonprofit helping our Palm Springs young people. The Palm Springs Retailers group consists of almost 100 Palm Springs retail stores and is a sub-group of Main Street Palm Springs Downtown & Uptown Business Association.

“Retailers have been hurt especially hard with the pandemic and with the summer we are facing increased challenges.  We developed the Shop for a Cause series of events as a way to support each other as well as our community,” said Jeffrey Bernstein, owner of Destination PSP and a Board Member of Main Street Palm Springs. “The Boys and Girls Club is an incredible organization and the business community was unanimously and enthusiastically in favor of supporting it.”

Additionally, all participating retailers have taken the pledge to provide a safe shopping experience.  Participating retailers will offer a combination of in-store, curbside pickup, online and appointment shopping to ensure that all customers have a comfortable way to shop.

The Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs was chosen as the beneficiary as this is also back-to-school week, although most children will still have to learn remotely.  The business community felt compelled to support the kids during this difficult time.

“During the pandemic we have had to be very creative in developing new ways to reach the kids, which has been quite a challenge for our staff,” said Margaret Keung, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club. “There are also many expenses being incurred in order to maintain the proper safety guidelines for our children as they come back to the Boys and Girls Club.  We are very grateful to the retailers and the community for this event.”

Main Street Palm Springs exists to join together as fellow businesses to proactively and aggressively represent the interests and contributions of the downtown and uptown business community to existing and potential customers and to represent our common interests to Palm Springs municipal leaders.

The Boys and Girls Club of Palm Springs is committed to serving the youth in and around the City of Palm Springs. Their programs strive to instill strong character, leadership skills, academic success and healthy living habits amongst its members and see them through to high school graduation. In doing so, the organization is committed to growing and retaining a solid membership foundation that will focus on pillars of community service, education, arts, and health and wellness.

“Our members are our number one priority,” said Keung. “Our programs are designed to build confidence, offer facilities and equipment for education and learning, act as a safe haven that deters members from dangerous situations, and employ professional and caring staff members to teach and promote these values on a daily basis.”
