1 February 2016 — San Francisco, CA: Don’t call it the “Big Game. ” For two Bay Area nonprofits working to end violence against women and children and promote healthy definitions of masculinity, this isn’t a game, but serious business. During the height of Super Bowl 50 celebrations, Futures Without Violence (www.futureswithoutviolence.org) and The Representation Project (www.therepresentationproject.org) are taking their message to the streets — and the façades of buildings — via a mobile, high tech projection system from Obscura Digital to provoke the question: what does it mean to #BeAModelMan www.BeAModelMan.org

“We’re challenging the NFL, sports associations, and fans to encourage boys and men to embrace a healthier definition of masculinity, ” says Jennifer Siebel Newsom, founder and CEO of The Representation Project and filmmaker of the acclaimed documentary The Mask You Live In. “Imagine how we could uplift the call to ‘Be a Man’ in the world. ”

“With Super Bowl 50 here in our town, we want to raise awareness about the critical role that men must play in raising a healthy, less violent future generation,” says Esta Soler, Founder and President of Futures Without Violence. “How do you coach boys into men? By talking to them early about respect for women.”

Newsom and Soler are making their point through an innovative campaign that will be, literally, in your face. At various times throughout Super Bowl Week, a one-of-a-kind Tesla electric car equipped with a state-of-the-art mobile projector, will pop up at sites around the Bay Area using the sides of buildings to display a variety of images and messages that promote healthy masculinity and violence prevention. The technology and creative engine driving the campaign is San Francisco’s Obscura Digital (www.obscuradigital.com), internationally known for such efforts as projecting powerful images of endangered species onto the façade of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and on the Empire State Building to raise awareness of species threatened by extinction.

“Our job is to project change,” says Travis Threlkel, Chief Creative Officer and co-founder of Obscura Digital. “The #BeAModelMan effort is a unique, immersive, and mobile experience that will change the way you think about how to be a man in the world At Obscura, we are passionate about collaborating with visionaries and proud to help The Representation Project and Futures Without Violence advance this dialogue.”

The effort has garnered championship support.

“A real man knows real respect,” said NFL legend Ronnie Lott who is adding his name to the effort. “We have to do a better job providing positive role models, on and off the field. With adults modeling healthy masculinity, it shows boys that winning isn’t everything, and treating women and girls with respect is part of being a man. I’m proud to stand up and call on men to do more with Futures Without Violence and The Representation Project. ”

Dear Colleagues:

Undoubtedly many of you have been following the press reports about the algae bloom that is negatively impacting this season’s crab harvest. Hopefully soon, all California harvested crab will be completely free of this naturally occurring, but nonetheless dangerous, toxin. Until such time, no local crab fishermen are fishing for, catching or selling crab. As a service to this vital coastal business, David Perry & Associates, Inc. is assisting the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations and the San Francisco Crab Boat Fishermans’ Association. Both these groups are working in concert with the State of California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the California Department of Public Health to ensure the health and safety of all consumers.

Please note the following online resources for the most up-to-date information.

10 Percent celebrates its historic 300th Episode

Media Advisory / Onsite Coverage Request:
Monday, 12/14 — 5pm to 9pm

Media Contact: DP&A, Inc., (415) 676-7007 / news@davidperry.com

WHO: David Perry’s 10 Percent TV

WHAT:
Celebrates its historic 300th Episode
— LGBT TV Show is Longest Running in California History

WHEN:
Monday, December 14: 5pm – 9pm

WHERE:
Catch Restaurant: 2362 Market Street (at Castro), San Francisco

WEB:
http://www.chnlivestreaming.tv/

WHY:

In 2009, David Perry created a new LGBT centric TV show. His premiere guest was the Right Rev. Otis Charles – first openly gay bishop on earth. Since then, Perry has interviewed artists, activists, politicians and priests in long-form conversations in the style of Charlie Rose: people, stories and issues of interest to the LGBT Community. Airing throughout California on Comcast Hometown Network channel 104 and internationally live-streamed online, David Perry’s 10 Percent is the longest running LGBT TV show in California history.

“It has been my honor to bring so many stories to the screen,” said Perry, 54, a San Francisco resident and media professional for almost 30 years. “Our issues are society’s issues and TV is still the public forum where those issues are aired and discussed.”

In a contrast with past shows, the landmark 300th episode features Perry in the hot-seat: being interviewed by Comcast Upside host Karli Mullane. In addition, the 300th episode will take a look back at some of Perry’s most memorable interviews including conversations with Tales of the City author Armistead Maupin, famed attorney and marriage equality advocate Kate Kendell, Yigat Pura of Top Chef Desserts, the original “Catwoman” from Batman Julie Newmar, X Factor sensation Jason Brock and Bobby Rivers of VH-1 fame.

The 300th episode debuts on Wednesday, December 16 at 7pm on Comcast Hometown Network Channel 104 and can also be watched live streaming at http://www.chnlivestreaming.tv/. A party at San Francisco’s historic Catch restaurant will mark the occasion with a special preview showing. San Francisco Board of Supervisors President London Breed will present Perry with a special proclamation to mark the occasion.

6 November 2015 — San Francisco, CA: Science, technology, education and math equals what every teacher knows by their acronym: STEM. These four leaves form the educational clover of the fifth annual Bay Area Science Festival (www.bayareascience.org) and the goals of an innovative San Francisco company, Touchjet (www.touchjet.com), that will showcase a new way to teach at an interactive display at Saturday’s Discovery Day at AT&T Park, 10am – 4pm. Saturday’s demonstration calls attention to Touchjet’s Teacher Giveaway campaign, during which students nominate a favorite teacher to receive a free Touchjet Pond Projector™ ($599 Value) using the hashtag #PondForTeacher. Five teachers will receive a Touchjet Pond™ in the campaign set to end on December 1.

“To paraphrase the great Edward R. Murrow discussing the invention of TV, Touchjet can teach,” said Helen Thomas, CEO of Touchjet. “For the first time, there is an affordable, portable and efficient device that allows school room interaction, and living room interaction, between students and teachers and between parents and their children. Plus, if you know a hardworking teacher or education professional in your life, Touchjet wants to hear from you. This month, we’re offering five teachers the chance to win a Touchjet Pond™ Projector. ”

The innovative Touchjet Pond is a tool that makes learning fun and collaborative for students of all ages. The projector turns any flat surface into an 80” touchscreen with which students can interact using a stylus.

“Imagine practicing math problems or learning a foreign language together on an interactive whiteboard,” explains Thomas noting that the Touchjet Pond has a built-in Android operating system, so students and teachers can download all Android apps to the device itself – including Dr. Seuss’s ABC reading app, Khan Academy, PBS Kids and more. “This is an incredible way to make classroom and at-home learning a truly interactive and enjoyable experience. It’s already being used in classrooms across the nation, as well as in several after school programs for additional learning.”

To call attention to Pond’s educational assets, Touchjet is asking students to write in and tell the company why a favorite teacher or education professional deserves a Pond using #PondForTeachers on Facebook or Twitter. The deadline to enter is December 1.

“We hope that Touchjet becomes the centerpiece of the classroom,” said Thomas, noting that the devices allows students and instructors to draw, annotate and edit documents together on a screen everyone can see. “Touchjet makes collaboration easy at a more compelling price than competitors. Swiping through lesson plans on the Pond quickly becomes collaborative and second nature.”

Led by UC San Francisco, the Bay Area Science Festival is designed to showcase the region’s catalytic role in scientific progress and provide innovative opportunities to build community around science, technology and engineering. The festival brings together the Bay Area’s leading academic, scientific, corporate and nonprofit institutions with the collective aim of providing accessible science programming to every Bay Area resident. By celebrating science in the same way society celebrates music and art, the Festival’s goal is to showcase how vital science is to Bay Area culture and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Featuring more than 50 fun and mostly free, interactive science and technology events at local venues from Santa Rosa to San Jose, the Bay Area Science Festival includes provocative lectures, hands-on activities, exhibitions, tours of cutting-edge facilities, and unique adult oriented science entertainment. The culmination of the annual event, now in its fifth year, is the AT&T Park Discovery Day in San Francisco. It is the largest such event of its kind in the United States.

“We are so honored to take part in the Bay Area Science Festival,” said Thomas. “As a parent myself, I understand the importance of making our classrooms truly innovative and creative spaces for our children. Touchjet helps do that.”
